Secondary alcohols are compounds containing a secondary alcohol functional group, with the general structure HOC(R)(R') (R,R'=alkyl, aryl). 4-(Methylthio)-2-butanol has been detected, but not quantified in, alcoholic beverages. This could make 4-(methylthio)-2-butanol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 4-(Methylthio)-2-butanol.
